Claims

Need to file a claim? We’re here to help.

A claim is stressful enough on its own. The last thing you should have to do is figure out insurance paperwork by yourself. That’s what we’re here for, not just when you buy a policy, but when it actually matters.

Start here

Before you open a claim. Call us first. We open the claim with you.

This is important: opening a claim is not always the right move. A claim on your record can affect your premium at renewal, even if the payout is small. As your broker, our job is to help you make that call wisely.

When you reach out to us first, we review the situation with you, assess whether opening a claim makes sense, and if it does, we open it alongside you. You don’t face this alone.

At the scene

Four steps to protect your claim.

Do these in order. The first one is the only one that matters before anything else. These steps apply whether you’ve had a car accident, a break-in, water damage at home, or an incident at your business.

1

Stay safe

Nothing else on this list matters if you or someone else is in danger. Get yourself and others to safety. Call 911 if there are injuries, fire, or an active threat. Do not put yourself at risk to retrieve belongings, documents, or evidence. Everything else can wait.

2

Document everything

Photos and videos are your most valuable tool after an incident. Before anything is moved, repaired, or cleaned up, document the scene thoroughly. Capture all damage, the surrounding context, any involved vehicles or persons, and relevant details like license plates, weather conditions, or visible causes. Write down what happened while it’s fresh. Save every receipt for emergency repairs or temporary accommodation.

3

Call your broker

Contact us before reaching out to your insurer. We’ll review what happened, help you decide whether opening a claim is the right move, and guide you on exactly what to say and what documents to prepare. A 10-minute conversation with us can make a significant difference in how your claim unfolds.

4

Contact your insurer

Once we’ve advised you to proceed, we’ll help you open the claim directly with your insurer, or in some urgent situations (like a major fire or flood after hours), you may need to contact them directly. Your insurer will assign a claims adjuster to your file. That adjuster is your main point of contact for the settlement itself. We remain available throughout to support you.

FAQ

Claims, answered.

When something happens, breathe. Call us right after the carrier. We help you handle the rest.

Should I always open a claim after an incident?
Not necessarily, and this is one of the most important questions to think through carefully. For minor incidents where the repair cost is close to or below your deductible, it may not be worth it. Every claim goes on your insurance record and can affect your premium at renewal, sometimes for several years. Call us first and we’ll give you our honest opinion on whether opening a claim makes financial sense in your situation.
How long does a claim take to be settled?
It depends on the complexity of the claim. A straightforward auto glass claim can be resolved in days. A major property loss involving structural damage or a liability dispute can take weeks or months. Once an adjuster is assigned, they’ll provide a timeline. We stay in contact throughout and follow up on your behalf if things stall.
What if I disagree with the insurer’s settlement offer?
You have the right to dispute a settlement you believe is unfair. The first step is to contact us, we’ll review the adjuster’s assessment and your policy terms together. If the disagreement persists, most policies include an appraisal or dispute resolution process. In some cases, a public adjuster or legal counsel may be appropriate. We’ll guide you on the right path.
Will my premium go up after a claim?
It can, but it depends on the type of claim, who was at fault, your claims history, and your insurer’s policies. Not all claims result in premium increases, and some policies include claims forgiveness for first incidents. This is one more reason to call us before filing, we’ll help you weigh the short-term payout against the potential long-term cost to your premium.
